The Tar Heels have been searching furiously for someone to fill the hole left behind by Drake Powell and on Saturday morning they finally did that.
As first reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from Montenegrin wing Luka Bogavac according to his agent Misko Raznatovic. The commitment comes just a day after it was reported that Bogavac was not returning to his SC Derby team in the Adriatic League.
Bogavac comes to Carolina after a strong showing in 2024-25. This past season, he averaged 14.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 45.1% from the field, 39.9% from 3-point range and 87.0% from the free throw line in 29.7 minutes per game. That followed a season in 2023-24 where he averaged 7.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists per game while shooting 42.0% overall, 32.2% from three and 76.0% from the charity stripe in just 18.3 minutes per game.
At 6’5, 201 lbs. he might not be the tallest wing player in the league, but he should plug in nicely to this roster with his ability to score and shoot the ball efficiently at all three levels. Expect him to be a big part in what the Tar Heels are hoping will be a more balanced offensive attack this season. Defensively, there will be a drop off from what Powell brought last year, but he gets after it and does a pretty decent job of forcing turnovers. This is a huge addition for the Tar Heels that seemingly completes this roster.
