The Tar Heels have done a good job of holding on to commitments on the recruiting trail amidst the rough start to the 2025 season, but on Wednesday, the team lost its top commit in the 2027 recruiting class.

As first reported by Hayes Fawcett of Rivals, 2027 4✮ RB Amir Brown has decommitted from the Tar Heels. The decommitment comes ahead of his scheduled visit to Notre Dame for their game with USC on Saturday night.

His decommitment comes in the middle of a junior season where Brown has rushed for 802 yards and eleven touchdowns on 102 carries and caught six passes for 49 yards for Rolesville High School in Rolesville, NC. Last year, as a sophomore, he shared carries in the backfield and still finished with 624 yards and 13 touchdowns and had 297 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

While his decommit doesn’t appear to disqualify the Tar Heels, it feels like Notre Dame is in position to land his commitment this weekend during his visit. Barring a drastic turn in this recruitment over the next few months, the Tar Heels will likely be looking elsewhere for their running back commit in the class.
