There hasn’t been a lot of buzz about transfer portal targets thus far, but one name did pop onto the radar earlier this week at defensive back.
As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3/Rivals, the Tar Heels are amongst those showing early interest in Iowa State cornerback Quentin Taylor per his agency. Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Minnesota and Mississippi State are amongst those also expressing interest in him early on.
Taylor, who has three years of eligibility remaining, is coming off of a productive redshirt freshman season with the Cyclones where he saw action in all twelve games across defense and special teams. He played 404 snaps on defense and 40 snaps on special teams this year, registering 27 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and four pass breakups. In coverage, he was targeted just 34 times this season and allowed just 21 of them to be caught for 209 yards and a touchdown.
This would be a very solid addition to the cornerback room if the Tar Heels were able to land him, but it seems like they will have some pretty stiff competition for him. As long as the money is right, the Tar Heels should be pushing as hard as anyone, though, because of the need for a starter opposite of Jaiden Patterson at the outside corner spot.
