After withdrawing from the NBA Draft late on Thursday night or early Friday morning, Greece’s Alexandros Samodurov has officially committed to Michael Malone and the UNC Basketball program, becoming the second international prospect to commit to Malone since he was hired back in April. Samodurov is a 6-11 big man from Greece, who has played professionally for Panathinaikos, where he played with current UNC guard Neoklis Avdalas, who transferred into the UNC program after beginning his career at Virginia Tech. During his time overseas, Samodurov played in Greece’s top league, as well as competing in the EuroLeague. Samodurov shined last year for the U20 Greek National Team, averaging 17.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks, on his way to earning All-Star honors for the FIBA U20 EuroBasket event.
The addition of Samodurov all but rounds out the frontcourt for Michael Malone next season, as UNC adds Samodurov to a frontcourt that consists of Sayon Keita from Spain, Northwestern transfer Cade Bennerman, and holdover Jarin Stevenson, who didn’t leave the program after the coaching transition.
There is still one roster spot available for next season, and the only other known player the UNC staff is in current contact with is Robert Morris transfer Josh Hill.
