Heel Tough Blog: UNC Lands Four-Star Prospect From Chicago

Zagsblog

The new year is only two days old, but Hubert Davis is starting the 2023 calendar off hot, as earlier this evening, James Brown a four-star center prospect from Chicago announced his commitment to North Carolina over the likes of Illinois, Duke, and Notre Dame. Brown visited Chapel Hill back on October 15th but had since visited the aforementioned Duke, Illinois, and Notre Dame, before ultimately deciding to commit to UNC. Brown is ranked as the No. 27 prospect overall in the 2024 class and is the No. 5 center prospect, and the No. 1 player from Illinois according to 247Sports.

Hubert Davis and his staff were most likely introduced to Brown, because Brown plays for the same AAU team, as current Tar Heel, Jalen Washington does, Meanstreets, which hails from Chicago. Last season while playing on the 16U squad, Brown averaged nearly 11 points per game, and over 5 rebounds per contest, while shooting an efficient 60% from the floor. During his sophomore season at St. Rita, Brown averaged a double-double, while shooting close to 70% from the field.

Brown is joining a class that already features a five-star commit in Elliot Cadeau, who committed to UNC just last week, along with fell four-star Drake Powell. The 2024 class was always going to be an important one for Hubert Davis, and with three commits already locked up, this could turn out to be one of the better recruiting classes in recent memory.
