With so much focus on the international prospects, it’s easy to forget that there are bigs still available in the transfer portal that played college basketball last season, who could help out the Tar Heels for next season. And after a week spent overseas, with contact being made to multiple international bigs, Michael Malone, and the UNC staff have reached out to two transfers stateside, as they continue to work to rebuild a frontcourt that has lost Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar to the NBA Draft.

Micah Handlogten is a 7-1 center who has spent the last three seasons with the Florida Gators, after starting his career at Marshall. Last season, Handlogten averaged 4.1 points and 5.9 rebounds, playing in 34 games, making two starts. For his career, Handlogten has averaged 5.2 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 65% from the field. In his lone season with Marshall, he earned Sun Belt Rookie of the Year honors, while averaging 7.6 points and 9.8 rebounds on 66% shooting. The Huntersville native is seeking a waiver to play a fifth year of college basketball, after only playing in 16 games during Florida’s 2024-25 national championship season.

The other stateside target on the UNC radar is FAU’s Devin Williams, who is coming off a more productive season than original transfer portal commit Maxim Logue, before it was announced he wouldn’t enroll at UNC. Williams is a 6-10 forward who started his career at UCLA back in 2023-24, playing in 10 games as a freshman, before redshirting for his sophomore season. Last year for the Owls, Williams averaged 7.5 points and 5.2 rebounds, while shooting 51% from the field and 31% from three in 33 starts. He is ranked as the No. 245 player in the transfer portal and the No. 32 center, according to 247Sports.
