The Tar Heels have been doing some significant work in the transfer portal in the past week, as they have landed 10 commitments, including some at important positions of need. Even though they have addressed certain positions, there are still some areas that they need to add more to before this portal cycle closes. Here is a look at how we would use the seven scholarship spots that we believe remain for the Tar Heels.
1 Offensive Lineman
The Tar Heels may already have four portal acquisitions here, but a fifth should not be out of the question. The team needs more experience than they have, as just two players in the room have started multiple games at the power conference level. There are still some experienced options out there that the team could look to add, it's just about paying the money necessary to get one of those guys. Let’s hope this staff see this as an important need like we do.
1 Cornerback
The Tar Heels may have made the addition of Ade Willie, someone that is capable of playing the corner spot, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be pursuing another cornerback that is capable of starting. The team needs someone that can handle themselves opposite of Jaiden Patterson and while Jalon Thompson has some potential, he needs someone that can at least challenge him for that job. The preference, though, should be to find an option that has starting experience at some level preferably with some nice success.
1 Defensive Tackle
This was a position that we thought we would never see on this list, but with the departure of both CJ Mims and D’Antre Robinson over the weekend, it would be nice to add someone to this rotation. Someone with a little bit of experience like Robinson had last year would be preferred, but a talented young option that didn’t play much at a powerhouse program wouldn’t be something that should be turned away either. Regardless of which, it would be nice just to get one more player into the fold here for talent and depth purposes.
