Heel Tough Blog: Monday's Scheduled Hubert Davis Live Postponed

Ever since the horn sounded, ending UNC’s season after a loss to VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, speculation around Hubert Davis’s job security has been the biggest question around the Carolina Basketball program. According to reports, both close to the program and from the national media, the expectation is for UNC to move in a different direction after an uneven five years under Davis.
Another sign that Davis has coached his last game is that it was announced on Jones Angell’s personal Twitter account that tomorrow’s edition of Hubert Davis Live has been postponed. During the season, Hubert Davis sits down with Jones Angell every Monday at Top of the Hill restaurant in downtown Chapel Hill to talk about the latest around the Carolina program. Even with the season over, he was scheduled to make one more radio appearance, and the fact that is not happening, is a sign that Davis, more than likely won’t be retained as the head coach of the Tar Heels, following back to back exits in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the first time that’s happened in the long, storied history of Carolina Basketball.
Davis has compiled a 125-54 record in five seasons on the bench in Chapel Hill, becoming the first UNC and ACC coach to win 20+ plus games in each of his first seasons on the sidelines. While he led UNC to the 2022 Final Four and won an ACC regular season title in 2024, the Round of 64 exits, along with missing the 2023 NCAA Tournament, are a hard pill to swallow for college basketball’s best program, which has put the program in a difficult situation to move on from a beloved member of the Carolina Family.
While nothing is for certain, a decision and an announcement about Davis’s future are expected no later than Tuesday of the upcoming week.
