The college basketball transfer portal is still open for business, and just when you thought that UNC had contacted its final player, a new transfer target emerged earlier this week. According to both Inside Carolina and Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports, Michael Malone and the UNC Basketball program have expressed interest in Buffalo guard Angelo Brizzi, who will seek to play a 6th season of college basketball after receiving a hardship waiver from the NCAA.
Brizzi’s lone season with Buffalo marked his fourth different school in as many years, after beginning his career at Villanova. Last year, Brizzi averaged 14.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, while shooting 37% from behind the arc. In his previous season, which was spent at Longwood, Brizzi shot an even better 40% from deep. At 6-3, Brizzi, who is left-handed, would be a welcome addition to a backcourt that could use another ball-handler, as well as a proven shooter at the collegiate level, with guys like Terrence Brown and Neoklis Avdalas both needing to make improvements in that area of their game.
For context on just how long Brizzi has been in the college game, he actually visited North Carolina back in 2019, the same weekend that future UNC commits, Caleb Love and Walker Kessler, were on campus for their official visits.
