Heel Tough Blog: UNC To Face Big 10 Opponent in Preseason Exhibition

The non-conference schedule isn’t officially set, and neither is the roster for the 2026-27 season, but that doesn’t mean other happenings around the program can’t be finalized. Earlier today, it was announced that Carolina Basketball will take on the Indiana Hoosiers in a preseason exhibition on Sunday, October 18th, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis, at the home of the Indiana Pacers. This is the latest high-profile preseason exhibition that UNC has scheduled, since the NCAA granted programs the ability to play in two preseason exhibitions, as long as one of the exhibitions benefits a charitable organization. In the past two years, UNC has played at Memphis, and last year, they played BYU on a neutral floor. 

Carolina is 6-10 all-time against the Hoosiers, with Indiana winning the most recent matchup, in Bloomington during the 2022 ACC/Big 10 Challenge. 

It’s unknown if Michael Malone will continue the tradition of hosting a small in-state school in the other exhibition contest, but given his desire to keep the long-standing values of Carolina Basketball in order, there’s a better chance than not that a small local school will make its way to Chapel Hill in the preseason. 

General ticket sales start Friday, June 19th.
