Heel Tough Blog: 8th Tar Heel Announces His Decision to Enter the Transfer Portal

With National Signing Day officially in the rear-view mirror, the focus for Bill Belichick and his staff is figuring out how many players are entering the transfer portal, so the staff can begin working on how to revamp the roster for next season, when the portal officially opens next month. Earlier today, Carolina lost their 8th player from the 2025 roster to the portal, as redshirt freshman Javarius Green entered the portal, after posting 13 catches, for 150 yards this past season for the Tar Heels. Green, like many UNC wideouts, struggled to find a consistent role in the offense, and in the passing game, that never found its footing with Freddie Kitchens as the play caller, and Gio Lopez as the QB. Green was featured a lot early in games, totaling 3 catches against TCU and Charlotte, before seeing his role in the offense diminish as the season moved along.

While Green didn’t have a consistent role in the offense, he was a valuable part of Carolina’s special teams units, which took a step in the right direction under Belichick, after years of inadequate play in that area under Mack Brown.

Green did walk during Senior Day festivities at Kenan Stadium before the home finale loss to Duke, and with that, he will have three years of eligibility left. With yet another transfer at the wide receiver position, the Tar Heels will have a new batch of pass catchers next season, when hopefully there is a new play-caller and a new QB as well.

Stay tuned to the Heel Tough Blog for the latest coverage of the transfer portal this offseason.
